汝 holds a confession of forbidden love. It has been written and sung in my mother tongue, the Hokkien dialect, one of the many forbidden dialects in Singapore’s context of enforcing the Speak Mandarin Campaign. The track, in its rawest form of a demo, is a form of protest and liberation in many ways. The forbidden love is one of queer love. The lyrics reflect experiences that express how many are conditioned to love as children in conservative family, schooling and societal environments.
