.gif announce indefinite hiatus, thank fans for their support

.gif will be going on an indefinite hiatus.

On 19 January, the Singaporean duo — made up of weish and din — took to their official social media channels to break the news to their fans, citing changes in their personal and professional lives as the reason for their decision.

"We feel we owe it to you to announce that we are officially on an indefinite hiatus, and won't be taking shows/making any music for now," wrote the indie-electronic act, who launched their sophomore studio album Hail Nothing back in 2020.

.gif also thanked their fans for listening to their music and supporting them in other ways over the years and expressed that they were "very moved to still be in [their] consciousness" even after a long period of inactivity.

Before concluding their statement, the minds behind tracks such as 'godspeed' and 'juvenile' — who will be pursuing solo endeavours within the local music community moving forward — said that they "remain friends who care for and respect each other" and offered fans a glimmer of hope by stating that a .gif reunion sometime down the road is a possibility.

Known for weaving influences from literature, theatre, and film into their music, .gif have grown into a familiar name in Singapore's electronic scene since making their debut with their EP saudade in 2013. Aside from releasing two studio albums, soma and Hail Nothing, the duo have also staged their own tours and performed at renowned international festivals.
