Mr. Mister marks Jilian's first public foray into composition and lyric writing—driven by receiving news of the loss of a friend. “The delivery was so cold and matter-of-fact—Like a simple statement, news to be expected.” Jilian says, “It happened, we acknowledged, we moved on.” The deceptively light, cheerful single narrates the reaction of a person on the receiving end of this devastating news, as well as the emotional rollercoaster that follows. “I lost hope, I questioned a lot, about the ‘whys’ and ‘what fors’ of life and the about the ultimate inevitability of death.” “I didn’t find answers to my questions. Or come to a new understanding of the situation.” Perhaps, as is the case with most things, the passage of time helped her find a way out of that mental quagmire. In light of current circumstances and the things that are happening around the world within and without our control, Jilian hopes to create this song for souls approaching a breaking point. A reminder that they are not alone. “Sometimes when we make our darkest selves known, someone else identifies it.” She says. “So together, we find a way to leave the dark.”
