It’s that time of the year again: the unmistakable roar of fighter jets can be heard across the heart of the city, red and white flags are popping up on HDB flats, and of course, we’re just beginning to hear National Day songs and the creative covers that come along with them.

This year sees some great reinventions of National Day tunes, and we’re not just talking about 'We Are Singapore' - cello quartet Bossa Celli and six-piece a capella group MICappella have put out their own hearty renditions of iconic Singaporean songs with accompanying videos sure to inspire heart-on-sleeve feels.

You don't always come across a cello remake of a National Day song, so Bossa Celli’s music video comes as a pleasant surprise with the quartet covering Dick Lee's 'Bunga Sayang' and 'Home' at the Marina Barrage against the emphatic backdrop that is the Singapore skyline.

And while it's not the first time MICappella is releasing something for National Day, they've revamped last year's medley of 22 National Day songs to include Singapore's four official languages in a nostalgic music video in order of the years each song was released.

If you're interested to watch these covers live, Bossa Celli has an upcoming performance at the Voyage Festival at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music on 22 August, and MICappella is set to perform at NDP 2018 on 9 August.
