Hear65's music video guide (December 2023) — ft. rhyu, lullaboy, The Island Voices, and more

When it comes to music, music videos are important supplements to what we can hear as they stimulate our visual senses in a way that sound cannot.

From creative homemade projects to cinematic works that beg to be seen on a big screen, all forms of music videos are released by Singapore's talented musicians seeking to extend the stories told in their songs every month. In this monthly series, we will be rounding up the latest releases from our sunny island that might fly under the radar.

rhyu - 'Falling Behind (PK Acoustic Sessions)'

Released: 21 December 2023

As rhyu nestles next to a window in the quaint studio of PK Records, she delivers a stripped-back rendition of her latest single, ‘Falling Behind’, alongside nkei’s Ian Lee. Within this cozy space, her ethereal vocals intertwine with Ian’s gentle strumming of the acoustic guitar, all set against the backdrop of passing cars on the street — a perfect reflection of the song’s lyrics.

Joel Quintis - 'Euphoria'

Released: 21 December 2023

Sick of the monotony of corporate life, singer-songwriter and producer Joel Quintis travels to a futuristic realm by putting on a curious-looking VR headset that appears in front of him. There, he is thrown into a high-octane firefight, a sword duel, an action-movie-like car chase, and even a surprise dance break. After watching the music video for 'Euphoria', you, too, will crave such escapism.

The Island Voices - 'Underneath The Tree'

Released: 17 December 2023

This December, a capella group The Island Voices gifted us a jolly new interpretation of Kelly Clarkson's hit Christmas track, 'Underneath The Tree'. With bright smiles on their faces, they spread the festive cheer by singing, dancing, setting up a Christmas tree, and just having wholesome fun with each other in their cover's accompanying music video.

Fatbear - 'Old Space (PK Acoustic Sessions)'

Released: 13 December 2023

Behind the musical identity of Fatbear is Allie, a musician who taps into real-life experiences and her feelings within her songwriting. Here, it’s okay to feel vulnerable as she takes us on an unplugged set of a track from her upcoming EP Mays In June, which is described as “a special project”. Together with Lucas Tee from CURB, the duo gently strum their acoustic guitars and sing of letting go of the past and chucking them into an ‘Old Space’.

John Klass - 'Christmas In My Mind'

Released: 11 December 2023

In this reissue of ‘Christmas In My Mind’, Gold905 radio presenter and singer-songwriter John Klass reminisces on the time when he met his true love in December during the festive season. As he cozies up on his chair, he looks back on the romantic snapshots of his significant other pacing around the snow and the moment he made a vow to love her forever.
