Namie and the Waves

Undercurrents, a 7-track EP recorded in December 2022. This is our debut EP since the band’s conception in 2018. Over the years, we have been crafting our sound and having conversations with one another about the music we make, the technicalities involved and all the emotional aspects of music making. The word undercurrents, a plural form of undercurrent, can be easily defined as currents, as of air or water, that flow below the upper currents or surface. We felt connected to this word in many ways. One of which is that we liken ourselves to the waves, the energy that moves through water in the ocean, independent of the undercurrents that exist beneath the surface. These are metaphors for the world, our existence and experiences. The seven tracks—Gone, Wander, Q;, What is Beauty?, The Deepest Blue, Counting Ships and Outro—depicts acceptance, inquisition, and tenacity through poignant lyrics and rousing musical layers.
