Since the beginning, we’ve been reviewing music on Hear65 every week, and now we'd like to break away from this tradition and pass the baton over to you - the listeners of Singapore’s music. If you've ever been itching to share your thoughts about a new track release, or simply want to introduce good earworms to more listeners, then read on.
For the uninitiated, the Hear65 website has a Review Function to help visitors discover and gain greater insight into the music in Singapore. Good music should always be shared, and we are inviting contributions from friends and fans of our homegrown artists.
Every two weeks, the Hear65 team will select a few reviews to publish in a Review Round Up article. Just check out the latest releases and submit your review for a chance to be featured.
Here’s what readers have to say this week:
Right For Me - Ken Loh, Brodie Baldwin
josh k, 100/100: This song is like Jeremy Zucker meets Lana Del Ray. Their voices blended together so nicely, filled with warm and sweet tones. The lyricism is metaphoric and filled with reminiscence. The soft acoustic guitar keeps a simple driven direction, whilst the electric guitar plays beautiful harmonies with a gorgeous reverb. Not to forget the military-esque drums that adds to the dramatic aspect of the song. This is definitely a track I could see in a film; it's hard hitting and overflowing with emotion and perspective. This track is nostalgic, dreamy, and beautifully crafted.
Circles - Shaun Jansen
Chia Kun Loong, 100/100: I love this release by Shaun Jansen! Although the lyrics and overall mood of the song seems to reflect melancholy themes, there's definitely something very uplifting about Circles as well! The clever blend of guitars, strings, and even the inclusion of organs gave the song a refreshing, gospel feel to it! I also got James Bay, James Arthur, and even James TW vibes from it! Congratulations again Shaun! Looking forward to more releases from you!
任性的时钟 - Chloe Low
Cobie Chua, 100/100: What lies behind this catchy and vibrant beat is a wonderfully penned song, which makes the listener reminisce on their life experience while bobbing along to the melodic (tick tock clock) rhythm at the same time. Chloe was able to bring out an emotional vibe while being quirky. It fits at just the right level with her well-controlled and precise vocals. Young adults and millennials will definitely be able to relate to this song when their memories kick in, making them wonder if they have done enough to fulfil their dreams. This is definitely a song you'd have on repeat and I can definitely hear this song playing on the radio soon!
