When it comes to music, music videos are important supplements to what we can hear as they stimulate our visual senses in a way that sound cannot.

From creative homemade projects to cinematic works that beg to be seen on a big screen, all forms of music videos are released by Singapore's talented musicians seeking to extend the stories told in their songs every month. In this monthly series, we will be rounding up the latest releases from our sunny island that might fly under the radar.

Marcus Lee, Homeless Scholars - 'what am i gonna do'

Released: 18 May 2024

Electrifying guitar riffs and soaring vocals are what you can expect to find in the music video for 'what am i gonna do', which sees singer-songwriter Marcus Lee and four-piece Mandarin band Homeless Scholars join forces in a studio for an impassioned performance of their new collaborative single.

Sherman Zhuo - 'Awesome'

Released: 16 May 2024

Set against a minimalist white backdrop, Sherman Zhuo begins the video seated on a black chair, donning an all-black outfit. As the catchy beats of the song play, the video becomes fun-filled or dare we say, awesome… with playful doodles appearing at various intervals of the song. For the rap portions, Sherman switches to a tan jacket and sunglasses, adding a visual contrast that captures the energetic vibe of the song.

hongjoin - 'Komorebi'

Released: 16 May 2024

Encapsulating the essence of the Japanese word ‘KOMOREBI’, which means sunlight that filters through the leaves of trees, the music video starts by showcasing reflections of shadows cast by plants and sunlight peeking through flowers. Bathed in warm lighting, the video features picturesque scenes that perfectly convey the ethereal and dreamy quality of the song. The visuals transition seamlessly between scenic landscapes and cinematic clips of hongjoin, surrounded by flowers, playing his blue electric guitar.

Released: 8 May 2024

This music video is everything you would expect from one that is paired with a track titled 'BO BEH ZAO' (Hokkien for "incomparable"). Starring ShiGGa Shay and E.SO, it depicts the Singaporean hip-hop act and Taiwanese artist as kings of a multi-storey complex — dressed in stylish streetwear and boasting a fancy car and pumped-up crew — whom you would not want to trifle with.

Sky Shen - 'March On'

Released: 4 May 2024

From singer-songwriter Sky Shen comes 'March On', the official Singapore Paralympic Team theme song for the Paris 2024 Summer Paralympic Games. Accompanying the number is a montage of clips featuring homegrown para-atheletes whose lives and achievements continue to inspire many.

ALYPH - 'Dari Jauh'

Released: 3 May 2024

'Dari Jauh' introduces us to a more tender side of ALYPH, the hip-hop star behind the viral hit 'SWIPE', and it comes with a music video that quite unlike anything we've seen before from the Singaporean artist. A localised modern-day version of Romeo and Juliet, the comical short film sees ALYPH, a clothing store assistant, and an assistant from a rival store fall in love, against the wishes of their warring bosses.
