When it comes to music, music videos are important supplements to what we can hear as they stimulate our visual senses in a way that sound cannot.

From creative homemade projects to cinematic works that beg to be seen on a big screen, all forms of music videos are released by Singapore's talented musicians seeking to extend the stories told in their songs every month. In this monthly series, we will be rounding up the latest releases from our sunny island that might fly under the radar.

LAYYI, YAØ - 'homebody'

Released: 27 September 2023

Who says being a homebody is boring? In the music video for their collaborative number, 'homebody', LAYYI and YAØ show us that there is much joy to be found in the many things that you can do from the comfort of your home, such as snacking on chips, vibing to music while wearing shades, and just lounging in your most comfortable clothes.

Shelby Wang - 'Bubble Eye'

Released: 26 September 2023

Inspired by a goldfish, after which this song is named, Mandopop singer-songwriter Shelby Wang sets out to live life the way her new aquatic friend does. As she dances and jams by a swimming pool, Wang shows us the liberation that can be found when we embrace life's uncertainties and let ourselves be silly.

ICEBOX - 'Lessons (Acoustic)'

Released: 25 September 2023

As if the original version of the song was not already heartbreaking enough, pop vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and producer ICEBOX has decided to release an even more heart-wrenching acoustic rendition of 'Lessons'. In the music video that accompanies the track, the PARKA act's pain is visible in his facial expressions as he looks back on a past relationship.

hongjoin and RENE - 'we grew up together (Official Lyric Video)'

Released: 23 September 2023

There are some places that evoke deep feelings of nostalgia in you, and the old-school dragon playground that serves as the setting of this lyric video is one of them. While hanging out at the playground, hongjoin and RENE sing of a love that has eroded with time, a sight that makes us wish that there were a way to turn back time and go back to a past that was much simpler.

ALYPH - 'HEAT'

Released: 22 September 2023

Set within the dark and cool atmosphere of an abandoned apartment, Singapore rapper and singer-songwriter ALYPH turns up the ‘HEAT’ in his latest release. On his mission to overcome setbacks like physical and mental exhaustion, ALYPH makes a point to switch up and “get a grip”. Angelina Chai Kai Ying, more commonly known as Angel from Malaysian girl group, Dolla, also makes an eye-catching appearance in the video.

Gen Neo - 'Stay'

Released: 15 September 2023

Written and produced by Amos Ang and Gen Neo himself, the singer-songwriter captures the pain of yearning for one’s company in this mellow and somber piece. Swallowed by loneliness, he grieves the absence of his former love interest and as the lyrics suggest, pleads with her to ‘Stay’ with him to restore the relationship.

lullaboy - 'life with u'

Released: 8 September 2023

In this charming acoustic piece, lullaboy opens the music video for ‘life with u’ with a promising development of a romantic relationship between the younger version of himself and his love interest. Just like what the song’s lyrics describe, the pair displays genuine feelings for each other. Everything seems great, till the ending takes an astonishing turn — we won’t spoil it for you.
