Rap and R&B have crossed over in an undeniable way globally. The spirit and sounds of both occupy a place of prominence in the palette of popular culture, which has, in turn, unspooled a multicultural thrust within it – necessary, at a time of such division. We’ve seen this in Singaporean rap and now the R&B realm has chimed in. Singer, beatboxer and producer Zadon has unveiled a new Mandarin single and accompanying music video for 'Harley', which features raps from local celebrity Tosh Rock.
One of the track’s greatest charms is that it’s so consummately catchy and danceable that even non-Mandarin speakers can hum and vibe with it. This is due in part to the production, handled by Zadon and Shorya, one of the most esteemed producers in local hip-hop, which melds a kinetic bounce, crystalline effects and gooey synths together into an exquisite pop jaunt. With Zadon singing and Tosh rapping, the track takes the listener through a myriad of different sounds and textures. Watch the video below.
