All Our Time
Coming Up Roses

Shoegaze trio Coming Up Roses sonically paints the feeling of pining with ‘All Our Time’, vocalising the difficult and catastrophizing questions we sometimes think of. It’s an easily digestible 5 minute guitar-driven track to satisfy your chordophone appetite, featuring fuzzy reverb trails overlaid with lyrics deeply rooted in melancholia. My favourite part of the track: at the four minute mark where the guitars starts scaling, with the backing vocals going like how you would sound like at a dental appointment.

(Staff Writer) Living With Ghosts - W. Y. Huang W. Y. Huang takes a detour from the sound that he’s more commonly known for with ‘Living With Ghosts’. Here, he trades the experimental motif and the sampling of Chinese instruments that he thrives on for an acoustic guitar; layered with horns and synths: adding a whole new dimension to what an acoustic tune is usually associated with. The song’s ethos revolves around growing up and relinquishing the shackles of the past. The song concludes with Huang singing the chorus: “I think I’m done, living with ghosts. I followed them round and round now I’m getting old,” as the horns (quietly) erupt. This is the most vulnerable I've ever heard from Huang, and I'm all for it.

Runaway (bong Remix)
Thaddeus Lin bong

(Staff Writer) Runaway - Thaddeus Lin (bong Remix) bong brings about an electronica element in his remix of Thaddeus Lin’s Runaway. Although distinctly different from Lin’s folky association, the remix doesn’t strip away much of the song’s original sound. Instead, the synth and kick drum repertoire elevates the track - adding more layers to what was previously one-dimensional with regards to it’s instrumentation. Think: St. South meets George Ezra
