More than a commemorative work, the song captures the Nanyang spirit, the struggles of early migrants, and the cultural threads that continue to shape the identity of generations of Singaporeans. “Nation-building has always been a blend of love, sacrifice, conflict and unity,” Joey shares. “We wanted the song to honour both the hardship and the hope—our forefathers’ footsteps and the spirit they left for us.”
