Dust It Off

FRGN, JJDROY

Release Date:2022-02-11

“Gotta pick myself up, gotta dust it off” Singapore-based rapper FRGN returns with an energetic rap anthem Dust It Off that serves as his first single and collaboration of 2022. Teaming up with young hip-hop phenom Jjdroy, this new release is a motivational ode to never giving up and showing love to your city. FRGN delivers a confident rap performance that conveys the setbacks and tribulations of everyday life and channels the strength to overcome every adversity with a positive demeanour. Jjdroy provides his signature lyrical flair and sly wordplay about embracing the grind and ignoring the critics. The single will also be accompanied by a basketball-themed music video released on the same day. FRGN leaned into his love of shooting hoops and wanted to craft a love letter to one of his favourite sports while paying homage to the 90s with the aesthetics. Directed by acclaimed cinematographer ihasamic, it features a surprise cameo from a Singapore Slingers star. ### Dust It Off Ft. Jjdroy Digital Release Date: 11 February 2022 Music Video Release Date: 11 February 2022 Written by: FRGN, Jjdroy Produced by: Knwn Mixed by: Zaki Zainudin Mastered by: Zaki Zainudin FRGN (pronounced Foreign) is the hip-hop alter-ego of Farhan Shafie. He is a writer, rapper, songwriter and podcaster. Having been part of concert & jazz bands in school, he grew up around music and beat making all his life. FRGN's passion for the spoken word and storytelling eventually led him to dabble in rap and songwriting. He is greatly inspired by master lyricists such as Mike Shinoda, Kendrick Lamar, J Cole, Drake & Childish Gambino. Having debuted with 2018's "Set On You" which gained radio airplay on Ria 89.7, the single was nominated at the 2019 Youth Music Awards. This was followed up by last year's Malay single "Kau Dah Berubah" which has garnered significant listenership from countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei. In 2020, FRGN teamed up for the first time with veteran rapper Charles ENERO on the pop-rap single "Blue Tick" which was featured on online publications such as Bandwagon, Hear 65 and Wonderwall.sg and prominent Spotify playlists both locally and in the region. 2021 saw the duo team up once more for the hard-hitting hip-hop track Deadlock, which was the official soundtrack of a award-winning martial arts short film of the same. Jjdroy: Earth shattering 808s, heavy riffs, sly wordplay, lyricism, grit - the few elements that undoubtedly define the 24 year old Singaporean rapper/singer-songwriter Jake Joshua DeRoy a.k.a Jjdroy. Known for his knack in accelerating flows, razor sharp punchlines and articulate cadences, Joshua also constantly pushes the envelope and dabbles in different genres - most notably and fluently with pop-punk, given that he has been self taught with guitars and drums from a young age. The highly versatile artist also has a wide array of collaborations with established local artists from melodic trap tones with LATRO, to heavy-hitting lyrical bangers alongside the likes of Axel Brizzy, Tengyboy and AE$OP CA$H to name a few. Collaborating with local metalcore band Reserate in 2021 has also added to the diverse discography of the young artist. Taking part in his first rap battle in 2019 has also earned him his strips as a battle rapper, further showcasing his attributes. Atop all that, Joshua also released his very first full length EP labelled Forget in March 2021, a story about healing. These early accolades prove to only be the beginning for Joshua as he continues to aspire to inspire, turning Jjdroy into a future household name. With much to offer in his arsenal and often wearing his heart on his sleeves, Joshua brings aggressiveness, vulnerability, energy and raw emotion above all, into every project he steps up to.
