Singapore’s longest-running alternative music festival returns this year for its 23rd edition with a jam-packed calendar. Running from 11-13 October at The Esplanade, this festival promises to be one of the biggest in Baybeats’ storied history.
Particularly noteworthy are the reunion shows of several vaunted Singaporean bands such as B-Quartet, Blood Pact and sub:shaman.
B-Quartet's comeback is an especially welcome surprise, seeing as the legendary local outfit has been inactive for many years, particularly since their last reunion in 2017. The six-piece band are best known for their 2 universally beloved albums, Tomorrow Is Our Permanent Address (2008) and Conformity Has Replaced Consciousness (2010).
Post-punk act Blood Pact is also back after 5 years of inactivity. Hot off their new single 'Flowers On My Grave' and upcoming album Angel Fire, which is slated to drop on 5 October, founding members Nick Wong (Marijannah, Blush, The Caulfield Cult) and Keith Chua are set make their return to the stage at the festival. The duo will be joined by a rotating lineup for this and other upcoming live shows.
Finally, in between writing/composing a musical, touring Europe and performing at NDP - it appears that multi-hyphenate artist weish has somehow found the time to reunite her boundary-pushing, prog-math rock band sub:shaman. This super group of sorts (also comprising members of Amateur Takes Control, Spacedays and Paris In The Making) were actually a Baybeats Budding Band in 2013, so this should be quite the full-circle moment for them.
Other notable local highlights include 7nightsatsea, Fader, Terrestrea, Darah, Comic Strip (who also recently reunited), Tell Lie Vision, monda(e), Caracal, Maneloren, Heaven Brought Me Hell, Sindo, and The Storms Upon Us, and deførmed.
The regional lineup includes LITE, Tokyo Shoegazer, KIKI, Barasuara, Hands Like Houses and many more.
