Hear65's music video guide (August 2025) — ABANGSAPAU, deførmed, Blush, Josh Makazo, jorud, Electrico & more

When it comes to music, music videos are important supplements to what we can hear as they stimulate our visual senses in a way that sound cannot.

From creative homemade projects to cinematic works that beg to be seen on a big screen, all forms of music videos are released by Singapore's talented musicians seeking to extend the stories told in their songs every month. In this monthly series, we will be rounding up the latest releases from our sunny island that might fly under the radar.

ABANGSAPAU - 'wow.'

ABANGSAPAU’s ‘wow.’ music video is a chaotic flex in motion — unfiltered swagger in the form of a delirium. Directed by Daryl Eng Jun and Ryan Naga, the visual kicks off in an elevator where ABANGSAPAU holds court, spitting barbs with laser focus while a wacky cast of characters, (including a cameo from Isaac Chiew), orbit his world. From confined lifts to surreal rooms, each scene is packed with unpredictable flair, echoing the track’s relentless energy and bold precision. Shot by Gareth Christopher at Yipieyaya Studio and brought to life with sharp cuts and bold lighting, ‘wow.’ doesn’t just underscore ABANGSAPAU’s bars — it amplifies them with attitude.

deførmed - 'SINGAPORE HOT'

'Singapore Hot' is a surreal, sun-drenched love letter to life in the Lion City, created by genre-defying musician deførmed and multimedia artist New World Plaza. The video pairs loopy lyrics about heat, overstimulation, and existential ennui with remixed archival footage of Singapore—from retro campaigns to home videos. It's part fever dream, part social commentary, and a wholly Singaporean experience. Produced by AMOK and born from the experimental art matchmaking tool Goreng by Mama Magnet, this hypnotic visual treat places deførmed inside a warped timeline of national nostalgia, portraying him as a wandering prophet sweating through decades of civic memory.

Blush - 'Ultrablue!'

Blush's music video for 'Ultrablue!' is a delicate and atmospheric exploration of the song's themes of missed connections. Filmed in the heart of winter with the vision of director Michi Nakano, the video captures Soffi Peters and Darell Laser wandering the cold streets of Tokyo, framed through intimate VHS footage. The band shares, “It was really fun making this music video in winter with Michi and (camera assistant) Shige. What drew me to Michi’s work in the first place was his photography -  it catches you mid-sentence or mid-thought, like you’ve stumbled into a memory. Likewise for 'Ultrablue!' - his direction really helped bring out the softness of the song, keeping us warm in winter."

Electrico - 'Easy Come Easy Go'

Veterans Electrico channel retro sci-fi charm in the music video for Easy Come Easy Go’, the laid-back second single from their 2021 comeback EP Left Of The Century. Written and directed by Dave Tan and produced by Reelloco Productions with support from the Infocomm Media Development Authority of Singapore’s Virtual Production Grant, the video follows a daydreaming MRT commuter who drifts into a kitschy 70s Star Trek-style adventure. Beamed aboard a spaceship by glamorous space women, he falls in love with one of them before being thrust into an intergalactic battle against aliens.

Josh Makazo - 'My Love Will Remain'

After an eight-month hiatus, Josh Makazo makes an evocative return with ‘My Love Will Remain’  via No Saints Allowed. The 22-year-old singer-songwriter trades fanfare for raw feeling, delivering a hauntingly tender meditation on love that lingers even as it fades. Guided by the warm embrace of recorded violins and the quiet solitude of spaced-out piano keys, the track lives in the in-between — a space where affection remains but no longer anchors. Paired with a rainy and nocturnal music video, Makazo captures the tearful ache of the track, setting the tone for his forthcoming sophomore album, which promises to explore the softer edges of love, loss, and everything between.

Slodown - 'NOT READY'

The music video for 'NOT READY' by Slodown takes viewers on an emotional journey through a bittersweet day out in London. Featuring Zoe Aronson and Delilah Ryan, the MV follows the two women as they eat, shop, run, and dance their way through the city, capturing carefree moments and fleeting joy. Directed by Hannah Beach, the video infuses the alt-R&B tune with underlying themes of departure, as the day culminates in a heartfelt farewell. With stunning cinematography by Helena González this visual encapsulates the pure emotions of connection, celebration, and inevitable goodbyes.

jorud - 'Uh-oh'

jorud, the solo alias of Jared Lim (of Sobs and Subsonic Eye), quietly unveiled a fantastic album called The song earlier this year. Now, one of its standout tracks,'Uh-oh', a lo-fi electronic pop number is elevated by a subtly evocative visual, directed by Farizi (Mary Sue andThe Clementi Sound Appreciation Club). The Purest Blue lends gorgeous harmonies and co-writes the track, while Sab Morado’s vocal engineering softens each syllable into a sigh - all polished through mastering by Kin Leonn. The video itself unravels like a kinetic memory suspended in static—intimate and beautifully undone.

ANECHOIS - live session at Tumbleweed Studios

Captured live at Tumbleweed Studios in June, this intimate session by ANECHOIS marks a powerful return for the post-progressive rock faves. Reunited with founding members Firdhauz Asyraft (keyboards) and Muhammad Fadli (drums), alongside new bassist Sufiyan, the band showcases their evolved chemistry through a stirring four-track set—featuring unreleased songs ‘Daydream’ and ‘Nightmare’, as well as familiar hits like ‘Wraith’ and ‘The Moon and the Sun’ from their 2012 debut A Shadow of a Sound. With Muhammad Haziq leading on vocals and guitars and Ahmad Khaliq adding soaring guitar textures, ANECHOIS blend technical precision with heartfelt depth, proving once again why they remain one of the country's most captivating live acts.

Mediacorp - 'Steady Like One Gang'

As part of its SG60 celebrations, Mediacorp has released 'Steady Like One Gang', a joyful musical tribute to Singapore and its people. Set against familiar heartland scenes such as coffeeshops and bus rides, the multilingual video features Singaporeans from all walks of life coming together in a vibrant medley of song and dance. The video celebrates the spirit that binds us, our collective progress, and what makes us uniquely Singaporean. 'Steady Like One Gang' is now also available on mewatch.

shazza - 'Way Back Home (A Song For SG60)'

In her heartfelt new music video, shazza. captures the bittersweet beauty of ambition, identity, and home in ‘Way Back Home’, a song she specially released for National Day. The track and MV sends a powerful message to Singaporeans chasing dreams abroad — wherever life may take you, home is always a heartbeat away. With lyrics that navigate oceans, stars, and the unknown, shazza’s vocals soar with emotion, backed by lush production from Timothy Liew and Dominic Yuan. Both intimate and cinematic, the Hafiz Rahman-directed visual underscores the song’s core message: it takes a village to build a home — and a nation.

Linying - 'I Will Walk With You'

Linying returns with a stirring anthem for Singapore’s 60th birthday in ‘I Will Walk With You’. Written and produced by the acclaimed singer-songwriter, the track is a tender pledge of unity — a reminder that even through uncertainty, we move forward together. The Nicole Tan-directed music video paints a vivid portrait of everyday Singaporeans, from young to old, each sharing quiet moments of connection and care. The visual and song breathe life into WalkWithYou.sg, a national movement built on empathy, inclusion, and hope. Introspective yet expansive, ‘I Will Walk With You’ is a love letter to community — and the unseen bonds that carry us home.

This music video offers an intimate look at the creation of a heartfelt tribute to home. Written by  actress, host, and voiceover artist Caitanya Tan, the song was inspired during one of her longer overseas stints for work, reflecting the unspoken camaraderie between Singaporeans far from home. Filmed during collaborative sessions with her younger brother Govin Tan of Flame of the Forest, the video showcases the duo's music-making journey. The production also featured the talents of fellow Flame of the Forest member Jeffery Tan, who handled mastering, while Amery contributed on keys, adding warmth and richness to the final recording. Echoing the song’s message, Caitanya shares, “This song is for the ones who left, the ones who long, and the ones who love from afar. Wherever you are, you’ll always be a part of Singapore’s story.”

Ying Ying - '买咖啡 (My Kopi)'

In the official music video for her debut single ‘买咖啡 (My Kopi)’, singer-songwriter Ying Ying takes viewers on a nostalgic, feel-good journey through Singapore’s vibrant kopi culture. Set in the iconic Killiney Kopitiam, the MV blends playful storytelling with heartfelt local flavour, celebrating everyday quirks like decoding the many ways to order kopi. Sung in a mix of Mandarin, English, and dialect, the video highlights shared Singaporean experiences while paying tribute to the nation’s 60th birthday. Through colourful scenes and catchy lyrics, Ying Ying offers both a love letter to local lingo and an invitation for global audiences to savour a uniquely Singaporean brew.
