Singapore's Hubert Ng produced the official Chinese theme of 'The SpongeBob Movie' for Shen Yue

Singaporean producer and songwriter Hubert Ng is ticking off a big one on the wish list. He has produced and co-composed the official Chinese promotional theme song for The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants — a franchise that has been part of many childhoods across the world.

The track, 'Big Guy计划', is performed by Chinese actress and singer 沈月 (Shen Yue) and was released on 1 January. It accompanies the film’s Chinese release, which is titled 海绵宝宝:深海大冒险.

According to official release credits, the song was released under the label 制作家. Hubert handled production duties himself and co-wrote the song alongside Singaporean collaborator JC Pang and Malaysia's JYPHAN, with lyrics by 风见梧桐 and arrangement by Levi Lee of BERTYVERSE.

For Hubert, the project carries personal meaning. He summed it up simply as a “childhood dream come true,” reflecting on the opportunity to work on a SpongeBob project.

"Spongebob has always been one of my biggest childhood cartoons growing up, so having the opportunity to pen for it is a childhood dream come true. Producing Shen Yue was an absolute pleasure as well. She came in prepared and was very polite and well-mannered despite being one of the top actresses in China. I've watched a few of her hit dramas, so was pretty excited to be working with her!"

With 'Big Guy计划' now available on streaming platforms, the song marks another high-profile international feature film credit for Hubert Ng (which includes Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts and Aquaman, among others) — and a reminder that Singapore talent continues to quietly make its way onto some very global screens.
