Ice Cream Sundays reunites with Darker Than Wax for the 5th edition of Haw Par Thrilla

A once-a-year spectacle, Haw Par Thrilla has grown from an experimental collab into a cornerstone of Singapore’s alternative dance scene. This year, Ice Cream Sundays (ICS) and Darker Than Wax (DTW) reunite yet again, bringing back their crowd-favourite back-to-back DJ sets, striking stage designs, and signature open-air vibes.

The party’s roots trace back to 2019, when ICS and DJ collective Mugic threw the first edition to a packed courtyard, blending playful energy with genre-hopping sets. The format clicked — quirky venue, B2B magic, and all-day dancing — growing into a flagship event series. Later editions linked up with renowned Hong Kong festival Shi Fu Miz and, more recently, with local tastemakers DTW, building a legacy of sold-out shows and community support.

“The energy we get from these collabs with Darker Than Wax is next level,” said ICS co-founder Daniel O’Connor. “It’s about uniting different communities with a shared love of dance music.”

This year's edition takes place at Culture Courtyard, Haw Par Villa on Saturday, 14 June. The event brings together some of the city’s finest selectors, highlighted by B@B DJ sets from ICS residents Bongomann, Muto, and Toppings, alongside DTW’s Daryl Knows, Dean Chew, and Dexter Colt. Expect a whirlwind of joyous house, rare disco cuts, global grooves, and deep dancefloor heaters — with live EWI flourishes from DTW co-founder Kaye.

True to ICS form, the venue will get a full visual makeover. Set designer Jen O’Connor returns with a new stage concept, joined by lighting pros UmamiFX for a dazzling sensory experience. And yes — Aliwal Chess Club is bringing back their beloved neon chess setup for late-night matches under glowing boards.
