In late-March, next-level-destined Singaporean audio-visual collective Syndicate gathered some of the most progressive and path-blasting electronic musicians in Singapore for Tigers In Tampines, a brand new show commissioned by NAC’s Arts in Your Neighbourhood, in collaboration with Hear65. The lineup of Syndicate co-pilot Kiat, Vandetta, Intriguant, Fauxe, .gif, NADA and Deborah Emmanuel was tasked with rendering its vision of the legacy – past, present and future – of Tampines, one of Singapore’s biggest and most populous heartlands.
Today, Syndicate lifts the veil on the Tigers in Tampines EP. Composed of found sound and each artist’s distinct marshalling of electronic elements, the 7-tracker is a gorgeous celebration of the many phases of history through which Tampines has passed. Its stories are told over beats hypnotic and sublime and its voices sing its stories into the atmosphere.
In an official release, Syndicate said this about the project’s raison d’etre: “As a whole it reflects the neighbourhoodʼs colourful characteristics and history. Individually, each song tells a unique story that presents the townʼs memories and aspirations through a mix of sonic snapshots and impressionistic compositions”.
