Homegrown talents take center stage in Marina Central's 'District M' music festival

This October, District M returns to Marina Central with a musical lineup that promises to set the city alight with talent and creativity. After a successful debut last year, the sophomore edition of the festival will be held on 4 and 5 October, bringing together Singapore's finest musicians, alongside a select few international acts. This vibrant event is an integral part of Singapore Design Week 2024, transforming Marina Central into a pulsating hub of music and art.

While international stars will be present, the spotlight this year is firmly on the homegrown talents that make the event a uniquely Singaporean experience. The District M stage is all about celebrating Singapore’s rich and diverse music scene, and this year’s festival does just that. Local acts blessing the festival include, Alicia DC, who will mesmerize the crowd with her sultry blend of R&B, bossa nova, and experimental electronic beats. KHAi, an indie-folk pop artist, who will take you on a journey of self-discovery and acceptance, YAØ is the one to watch with his fusion of urban soul and contemporary pop, this rising singer-songwriter is known for his infectious beats and emotive lyrics. His performance at Music Piazza promises to be a highlight of the festival.

We've got Ffion, who seamlessly blends melancholic vocals with laid-back allure, she will bring a touch of UK influence to the Singaporean stage. Having been raised in Singapore, her sound reflects a combination of global and local influences, making her a unique addition to the lineup, Khally, a local R&B and neo-soul singer-songwriter, will captivate the crowd with her soulful voice and heartfelt lyrics, Miss Lou, Singapore’s glamour vintage songbird, will transport audiences back in time with her blend of classic vocal stylings and modern flair.

No it does not stop there! We've got ANNÉ, a confident and charismatic diva-in-waiting who boasts virtuosic vocals and plays multiple instruments. Regina Song, who is a singer-songwriter who has amassed a burgeoning, fervent young fan base. WHYLUCAS, who is an up-and-coming singer who creates genre-crossing music, influenced by their classical and creative pop background. There are certainly plenty more local acts for you to discover!

For fans of DJ sets and hip-hop culture, District M offers an electrifying experience with DJ Shingo Takahashi bringing his dynamic sets of soul, funk, and hip-hop. This Tokyo-based DJ is known for his energetic performances and global following. Additionally, the Solid Gold DJ sets will feature a lineup of heavyweights, including DJ Idee, the 2014 World DMC Champion, and Singapore’s own KoFlow, a pioneer in the local DJ scene. Accompanying them is Singapore's legendary breaking crew, Radikal Forze, adding a dose of street dance energy to the mix. Expect high-energy beats and impressive breaking moves that will have the crowd buzzing.

Though the focus remains on local talent, a select few international performers will also grace the stages of District M.

Hailing from Australia, indie-folk singer Harrison Storm will bring his heartfelt acoustic confessionals to Singapore. Known for his evocative lyrics and soulful melodies, Harrison's music is bound to resonate with fans of introspective folk. The popular Jayesslee, Korean-Australian twin sisters who shot to fame through YouTube, will also be making a much-anticipated appearance. Their acoustic renditions of popular songs have captured hearts worldwide, and they’re sure to be a crowd favorite. While the music takes center stage, District M offers much more for festival-goers. Visitors can enjoy interactive art installations, poetry jams, beading workshops, and even digital painting. Families with young children can also look forward to kid-friendly activities spread across the four festival zones—The Deck @ Marina Square, Sound Park @ Millenia Walk, Music Piazza @ Suntec Plaza, and Fountain Stage @ South Beach—will feature not just music, but also unique experiences tailored to each space.
