This festive season, commuters can tune in to Christmas tracks by local musicians while traveling around Singapore.
Today (20 December), Hear65 and the National Arts Council (NAC) rolled out a special Christmas playlist as part of its I Play SG Music campaign. The playlist features 10 tracks from homegrown artists including MICappella, inch, Haneri, Northwoods, Miss Lou, Jeremy Monteiro, Corrinne May, The Sam Willows, and NyaLi, that were released over the years.
I Play SG Music brings locally produced music to light at 125 MRT and LRT stations and bus interchanges across the island, as part of a broader partnership between the NAC and transportation service provider SMRT.
Consisting renditions of acclaimed and familiar Christmas tunes such as ‘Silent Night’, ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’, ‘Joy To The World’, and ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas’, commuters can perk their ears for their favourite tracks while getting to know local names.
Other highlights of the festive playlist are John Klass’ ‘Christmas In My Mind’ and Poh Chin’s ‘First Snow’. Known to be the new releases for the season by the Gold905 radio presenter and budding singer-songwriter, Hear65 also had the chance to chat with the artists on the inspiration behind their festive tracks.
“I have always liked the idea of snow, so being able to revel in that weather was truly a dream come true. This extended to ticking “having a white Christmas” off my bucket list as well,” Poh Chin shared in an interview with Hear65.
“['Christmas In My Mind’ is] a heartfelt love song that tells the story of a man who meets his true love during the December Christmas season”, John Klass said in an interview with Hear65. “It's a beautiful tribute to the power of love and the enduring magic of Christmas.”
The I Play SG Music Christmas playlist will run at all stations and three bus interchanges till 2 January 2024.
