The 27th edition of Singapore Writers Festival (SWF) invites attendees to reflect upon our relationship with the natural world. Focusing upon the theme "In Our Nature", this year's edition features an outstanding list of guest speakers from the literary world, as well as a diverse array of programming.
But beyond panel discussions, workshops, lectures and exhibitions - SWF 2024 will also be hosting a robust lineup of music-releated events that shine a spotlight on some of Singapore's finest composers and musicians.
Evolution Anthems is a free event that takes place across 2 Saturdays on 9 November and 16 November between 5-9PM at The Arts House, Annex Building. Spanning genres from pop and R&B to indie rock and soul - this programme's lineup encompasses popular singer-songwriters such as Shak'thiya, KHAi, Daniel Sid, Joie Tan and inch.; alongside renowned composers like Ding Jian Han and Tan Yuting.
Another highlight is Dear Home, which takes place on Friday, 8 November and Saturday, 9 November at The Arts House, Play Den from 8-8.45PM. This interactive musical showcase by vocalist Sushma Soma (accompanied by guitarist Isuru Wijesoma) sees her reflecting upon the concept of "home" in terms of both its natural and social environments, as well as her choices in ensuring sustainability. Tickets are priced at $20.
Using music, spoken word and soundscapes from our everyday lives, Sushma weaves together her wonderment and love alongside a sense of disappointment and rage arising from her complicity in the destruction and discrimination around her. The performance will feature songs from different Indian languages, while the narration and dialogue will be in English.
