Indie band Quis are gearing for one of their most exciting projects yet with the release of the theme song 'We Can Save The World!!!' out on 12 September, for an acclaimed movie of the same name created on home soil. Notably, the indie film was featured at this year's installment of the New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF).
The track is said to capture the essence of the sci-fi comedy that follows the story of a jaded government worker who unexpectedly crosses paths with a homeless man who claims to be an alien stranded here on Earth and needs help locating a doomsday device.
The film brings together a talented ensemble of local actors and seasoned thespians, including Noah Yap, Jun Vinh Teoh, Xuan Ong, Fauzi Azzhar, Mark Kinoshita, and Daisy Irani. It also features cameo appearances from other Singaporean celebrities, such as Benjamin Kheng.

The theme song was co-written by the music director of the film, local composer Sulwyn Lok, alongside Quis' bandleader and producer Sean Lim. The friendship between Sean and the film's director Chai Hong traces back to when they were introduced to each other by the band's drummer Wesley.
Sulwyn explains the creative and conceptualisation process when it came to conceiving the soundtrack to the film and how it tied to the themes featured in the movie as he expresses, "Anime and comic books are tropes featured within the movie, where the main character’s hand-drawn comic book from his childhood becomes a motivator to saving the world from an impending alien invasion. The intentional use of J-pop/rock elements within the theme song reflects this. Also, Quis started out covering Japanese pop/rock music during their very early days. All these ended up becoming fun Easter eggs for audience and listeners alike.”
Sean muses about his reasoning behind jumping onboard this project as he shares, “The underlying message was so vulnerable and relatable; reflecting everyday lives not through rose-tinted glasses, but portraying the messy, weird and ridiculous lives that the layperson has — exactly what makes them universal and worth telling. The story about saving the world, not through grand plans or heroic actions, but simply by helping the person sitting right next to you, was something that really resonated with me.”

Sean related with the film being the only fully independent Singaporean feature in this year’s New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF) lineup of over 100 films, being part of an independent group of musicians himself. He understood the financial constraints of making a project of this scale with little to no aid and helped his friend out without any hesitation.
The theme song will definitely be the perfect addition to the film and make it an even more enriching visual experience. 'You Are Tomodachi (Racial Harmony Edition)', an ear-catching track performed by the movie’s cast and crew and featured prominently in the film, will also be released on 12 September alongside the theme song as a bonus track.
The release of the track will be followed by an official music video that is set to be unveiled on 16 September before the official Singaporean premiere of We Can Save The World!!! on 18 September.
