SG:SW I Write The Songs marks 10th anniversary with new team format & songwriting camp

Singapore’s homegrown Mandopop songwriting scene is getting a major refresh as SG:SW I Write The Songs returns for its milestone edition this year.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the nationwide festival is back with a revamped format aimed at nurturing the next wave of local songwriting talent — and it’s bringing some familiar names along for the ride.

Organised by the Composers & Authors Society of Singapore (COMPASS), Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC), and Ocean Butterflies Music, the festival has, since its inception, received over 2,700 original submissions from close to 2,100 entrants — cementing its role as a key platform for aspiring Mandopop creators in Singapore.

A new chapter: team-based mentorship

For the first time, SG:SW will adopt a team-based format, led by local singer-songwriters Yokez (叶玉棂) and Ben Hum (范平庚).

Both artists will serve as ambassadors and mentors, each guiding 12 shortlisted finalists through a four-month journey — from refining compositions to preparing for live performances. The shift signals a more hands-on, collaborative approach, giving participants deeper insight into the realities of songwriting and stagecraft.

Introducing the Songwriting Camp

Another major addition this year is the debut of a two-day, one-night Songwriting Camp.

Designed as an intensive creative experience, the camp will feature workshops and a masterclass led by Mandopop heavyweights Real (阿沁) and Tina Wang (王雅君). Participants will get the chance to sharpen their craft, exchange ideas, and further develop their songs ahead of the final stage.

From open call to final spotlight

Submissions for SG:SW I Write The Songs 2026 are open from 27 April to 14 June, inviting songwriters aged 15 and above to submit original works.

From there:

  • 24 entries will be selected for the Live Showcase
  • 10 finalists will advance to the Songwriting Camp
  • Finalists will perform at the Finale Concert

The Live Showcase is set to take place on 8 and 9 August at Bugis+ Atrium, while the Finale Concert will be held on 3 October at the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre Auditorium.

Spotlighting the next generation

Beyond competition, SG:SW continues to position itself as a launchpad for original music in Singapore. Winners can expect not just cash prizes, but also professional recording opportunities, EP releases, and music video production — a rare full-circle experience for emerging songwriters.

With a decade of history behind it and a refreshed format ahead, this year’s edition is shaping up to be one of its most dynamic yet — one that doesn’t just celebrate songwriting, but actively builds the future of it.
