Singapore’s beloved vocal ensemble The Island Voices are celebrating the nation’s 60th birthday with a brand-new release: Island Anthems, a six-track a cappella tribute to the city-state’s multicultural soundscape.
The album features reimagined renditions of National Day favourites in English, Malay, Mandarin, and Tamil, spotlighting homegrown nostalgia with a fresh harmonic twist.
Leading the project is ‘Here We Are – A Cappella’, released on 4 July, a tender and layered take on this year’s National Day Parade theme song. The track – also available on Spotify and YouTube – features the ensemble’s signature vocal textures, transforming the anthem into an intimate tribute to Singapore’s unity and diversity.
“We have so many different types of people and stories within the Island Voices,” shares founder and bandleader Owen Li, “that we wanted to showcase that diversity through our tracklist.”
Island Anthems bridges generations with fresh takes on beloved classics like ‘Semoga Bahagia’, ‘如燕’, and a powerful mashup of ‘Song for Singapore’ and ‘Home’. Here’s the full tracklist:
