'SAW at SAM' lines up Subsonic Eye, nkei, Pleasantry, sub:shaman, Alicia DC & more for Sonic Sessions

There's a plethora of exciting programming happening during Singapore Art Week (SAW) 2025, ranging from exhibitions and performances to talks and workshops. But for local music fans in particular, this year's edition of Sonic Sessions at Tanjong Pagar Distripark is once again a must-attend event.

As part of SAW at SAM (Singapore Art Musuem), there will be live music performances after dark at The Spine (located between Blocks 37 and 39) from 17–18 January and 24–25 January. This free admission program is set to feature an eclectic lineup of homegrown and international artists.

On Friday, 17 January, the bill features rising singer-songwriter Alicia DC, as well as indie rock veterans Pleasantry and Subsonic Eye.

The night concludes with a special collaboration between Tanatchai Bandasak and Voranat Voraphitak (Urk). Their performance of Time Spiral Vortex explores how sound and image can be used to capture how a snake injects venom into its victim. It merges machine learning, noises, sub-bass and polyrhythms with razor sharp synchronisation between audio and visuals.

The live music continues on Saturday, 18 January with acclaimed composer and musician Bennett Bay, post-psych rock band Bakers In Space, alternative R&B duo nkei, and experimental rock virtuosos sub:shaman.

The night is headlined by HAEPAARY, a South Korean alt-electronic duo consisting of Minhee and Hyewon. They will reinterpret the melodies and lyrics of Jongmyojeryeak, the royal shrine music of the Joseon dynasty, and Namchang Gagok, a Korean traditional vocal genre that has been performed exclusively by men.

The following weekend finds Geylang Crunk audiovisual collective O$P$ presenting Sonic Summonings on Friday, 24 January. Acts slated to perform include Zushan, Benedict & Palmer, Wendy Woon, SENGET, Koyak, HZQ, Scondah.

Saturday, 25 January features the soulful acoustic pairing of Tasha & Chris, a spoken word by performance artist ArunDitha, alt-rock band Salt Envy, neo-ethnic fusion ensemble Mantravine, a set by Juke Bounce Werk DJ Scatta, and a projection mapping show by Kult
