What's it like to be a resident DJ at MARQUEE Singapore?: Zippy, FVDER, Nash.D & PARTYWITHJAY open up

Since its opening in 2019, MARQUEE Singapore has been heralded as one of Singapore’s premier nightlife institutions. Located at Marina Bay Sands, the famed megaclub is known for its ability to consistently attract world-class international superstars such as Peggy Gou, Martin Garrix, Armin van Buuren, Hardwell, and Afrojack (just to name a few) to their hallowed decks.

However, what shouldn’t be overlooked is that the entertainment destination is also renowned for their incredibly talented in-house roster of local DJs! Ahead of MARQUEE’s anniversary celebrations in April, we spoke to the hotspot’s beloved residents - Zippy, FVDER, Nash.D, and PARTYWITHJAY - to learn more about the stalwarts headlining Singapore’s largest club.

What do you love most about being a resident at MARQUEE?

Being a resident at MARQUEE has been an incredible journey. What I love most is the energy—every night feels like a new experience, and the crowd brings a different vibe each time. It’s not just about playing music; it’s about creating moments that people will remember. MARQUEE has a unique way of making even the largest venue feel intimate, and I love being part of that magic. On top of that, working alongside some of the best talents in the world constantly pushes me to improve. It’s both humbling and inspiring to share the stage with artists I’ve looked up to, and it motivates me to keep evolving as a DJ.

How has your time at the club helped you to grow or evolve as a DJ?

Playing at MARQUEE has pushed me to grow, both technically and creatively. The scale of the venue and the diversity of the crowd means I have to constantly refine my sets to keep things fresh and exciting. I’ve learnt to read the room better, take risks with my music selection, and find new ways to connect with the audience. Having the opportunity to share the stage with some of the biggest names in the industry has been incredibly inspiring.

One of the biggest areas of growth for me has been my confidence on the mic. When I first started, I was shy about speaking to the crowd, but over time, I’ve learnt to overcome that fear. Now, I see the mic as another tool to engage the audience and elevate the energy in the room. That shift in mindset has made me more motivated than ever to put on an even better show—not just through my music, but through my presence and connection with the crowd.

Which resident night do you helm? And how has your particular style shaped the night and its audience?

I helm Utopia, a night dedicated to trance, psytrance, and progressive house. Trance has always had a special place in my heart because of its ability to evoke deep emotions and take listeners on a journey. When I started Utopia, I wanted to create more than just another club night—I wanted to build an immersive, uplifting, and almost cinematic experience.

My sets are carefully crafted to guide the audience through waves of energy, from euphoric melodies to high-intensity drops, keeping them engaged from start to finish. Over time, Utopia has built a loyal following of people who come specifically for that emotional connection to the music. Seeing the crowd lose themselves in the moment, singing along, and sharing that energy with each other is what makes it so special. It’s not just about playing tracks; it’s about storytelling through sound, and that’s what keeps people coming back.

What do you love most about being a resident at MARQUEE?

MARQUEE isn’t just a club—it’s a full-scale spectacle where every weekend feels like a festival. The lights, the lasers, the sound, the crowd—it all pushes you to bring your A-game. I love experimenting with different sounds, surprising people with fresh sounds or just even evoking a sense of nostalgia. There’s nothing quite as satisfying as seeing the whole place move in sync to a track you’ve just dropped. Playing alongside top artists from around the world is also something I’m incredibly grateful for.

How has your time at the club helped you to grow or evolve as a DJ?

MARQUEE has completely changed how I approach DJing. It’s not just about selecting tracks—it’s about delivering a full-scale performance. The massive production means I have to think about everything: how the music translates on a big system, how the visuals and lighting sync with key moments, and how to keep the crowd locked in from start to finish. I’ve also become more aware of stage presence—knowing when to let the music speak and when to engage with the crowd to push the energy higher. Playing alongside world-class DJs has taught me a lot about adaptability and reading different audiences, keeping my sets forward thinking and dynamic.

I’ve also learnt how to balance artistic freedom with creating an optimal guest experience. Reading the room, understanding what different crowds respond to, and ensuring the night stays exciting for everyone has been an essential part of my growth.

Which resident night do you helm? And how has your particular style shaped the night and its audience?

I run Hypersonic, and it’s more than just a hard dance night—it’s a fully immersive experience. From the sound to the visuals to the energy in the room, everything is carefully curated to make sure the night feels unique. I work closely with the production team to design moments that hit hard—whether it’s a perfectly timed drop with a blast of visuals or a deep, unexpected switch-up that takes the crowd by surprise.

Musically, I keep things fresh by blending influences from different genres, pushing the sound forward while staying true to the raw energy of hard dance. Playing alongside world-class artists has helped me refine my approach and introduce new elements that keep the night evolving.

At the end of the day, I’m just grateful to be part of something that brings people together. Hypersonic is for everyone—whether you’re a die-hard fan or someone just discovering the sound, the goal is to create a space where people can let go, move freely, and be part of something bigger than just the music.

What do you love most about being a resident at MARQUEE?

Being a resident at MARQUEE is a dream for many DJs in the country, and I feel incredibly blessed to be part of it. One of the things I love most about this residency is the opportunity to DJ alongside some of the biggest names in the music industry. It’s not just limited to DJs—MARQUEE also brings in top-tier live acts, making the experience even more exciting.

How has your time at the club helped you to grow or evolve as a DJ?

Performing at a venue as big as MARQUEE pushes you to think outside the box. Sonically, you have to understand what works in such a massive space, while visually, you need to maximise the impact of the huge LED wall and lighting effects. On top of that, developing a strong concept for each set is crucial. Before MARQUEE, I was primarily focused on the sound, but now I’ve evolved into a more complete DJ.

Which resident night do you helm? And how has your particular style shaped the night and its audience?

I helm Astrolab at MARQUEE. Rather than confining the night to a specific genre, I focus on creating a mood—and for Astrolab, that mood is high-energy. With my background in hip-hop and R&B, I blend dance music with urban and hip-hop elements, crafting a unique experience that leaves a memorable impression at MARQUEE.

It’s been incredible to see how the crowd responds, not only staying engaged but also embracing new genres like drum & bass and progressive house when I introduce them. Astrolab is constantly evolving, and the audience is on this journey with me, exploring new sounds and energy together.

Which resident night do you helm? And how has your particular style shaped the night and its audience?

Cirque is the signature night I helm at MARQUEE Singapore, where the venue transforms into a surreal, nocturnal circus. From the moment you step inside, you’re immersed in an experience that blends music, art, and performances into a captivating spectacle.

Our talented production team curates key visuals that perfectly complement the energy of Cirque, enhancing the atmosphere with every song. When you think of Cirque, you envision not only exceptional music but also theatrical performances from our artists, creating a magical yet chaotic energy that ensures a vibrant and immersive night.

Musically, Cirque champions genres such as house, Afro house, bass house, and tech house, all coming together to set the tone for an unforgettable experience. Every time Cirque takes over MARQUEE, the night becomes a thrilling celebration. It’s heartwarming to witness a community of like-minded music lovers coming together and create lasting memories.
