One of Singapore's most renowned ambient producers, Kin Leonn, has just put out a brand new, special digital EP entitled echo in the gleam. Released via KITCHEN.LABEL, this exquisite mini album is a billed as a companion to his acclaimed 2023 masterpiece mirror in the gleam.
The liner notes describe the multi-instrumenalist composer's latest as "shaped by tours across Japan, Singapore, and beyond - fan-favorite live pieces, alongside new works, have been reimagined and recorded in their evolved forms. A reflection of live energy, transience, and luminous ether."
Kin spoke to us about his remarkable sophomore album in a wide-ranging interview last year.
Regarding his inspiriation for mirror in the gleam, Kin shares, "I became obsessed with the idea of sounds that blur the line between instruments and field recordings, whether in their tone or their behaviour. Like, at what point does a bell start to sound like a resonant rock and vice versa? During this same period, I was heavily into the aesthetics of eco-mysticism and magical realism, so I think my brain naturally drew some intersections and framed all of this academia in a way that felt connected and universal. The imprint of this can be felt."
Next up, the prolific artist will be featured in yeule's forthcoming album Evangelic Girl Is a Gun, set for release via Ninja Tune on 30 May.
