Although it’s an upbeat number, its lyrical aspect begs to differ. ‘Melancholic Weekends’ came from a time where DEON lost his dog, Joy, due to an organ failure, channeling all the grief and anguish he felt into his songwriting. The track marks the third single released by the artist, building up to his forthcoming EP Melancholic Pop.
Speaking on the collaboration with NyaLi, DEON shared in a press release statement: “I first met NyaLi back when we were in school together, and I have been witnessing her growth as a musician through the years. We reconnected when the pandemic brought her home to Singapore.”
“I vibe with her free spiritedness and I thought it would be a good idea to feature her on one of my singles. After all, the pandemic gave us unsolicited permission to give ourselves that extra push. It is really great to be able to work with her on this, during a lull time for most creatives, and after all these years.”
The two previously released singles are ‘Breathe In’, and ‘Don’t Bother’, the latter featuring homegrown vaporwave artist Don Aaron. DEON will also be opening pre-orders of his merchandise on the 4th of February on his website here.
