Julian Wong recomposes P. Ramlee classics with 30-piece chamber orchestra for Wild Rice's 'Tunggu Sekejap'

Julian Wong is renowned as one of Singapore’s most outstanding music arrangers and directors. Previously, he was the mastermind behind a loving musical tribute to Zubir Said entitled Don’t Call Him Mr. Mari Kita.

Now, the acclaimed maestro is set to pay homage P. Ramlee, a legend in the world of Malay film and music in the 1950s and 60s.

From Thursday, 15 May to Saturday, 31 May - Wild Rice be staging Tunggu Sekejap: The P. Ramlee Suite  at The Ngee Ann Kongsi Theatre. In this heartfelt celebration of P. Ramlee’s music, Wong has recomposed familiar songs – including 'Azizah', 'Getaran Jiwa' and 'Tunggu Sekejap'  into three movements. They will be performed by re: mix, a 30-member chamber orchestra, under the direction of maestro Foo Say Ming.

During the concert, Wong will share the process and inspirations behind his re-compositions and audiences will discover how P. Ramlee’s music is not only evergreen, but also surprisingly contemporary.



Directed by Ivan Heng, this production reunites the same creative team that brought Don’t Call Him Mr. Mari Kita to life on stage. Interspersed with iconic film clips and key biographical trivia, this concert celebrating P. Ramlee’s musical legacy promises to both illuminate and enchant.
