Singapore's Nathania Ong cast as Eliza Hamilton in West End production of 'Hamilton'

Singaporean musical theatre actress Nathania Ong will star in the 2024 and 2025 West End run of the beloved musical Hamilton.

In a post on her official Instagram page on 8 May, the 25-year-old announced that she had been cast as Eliza Hamilton, the wife of American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, in the production.

She will be taking over the role from English singer and actress Shan Ako, who has played Eliza Hamilton for the last two years, on 17 June 2024

She wrote in her post: "Following a list of incredible Elizas, I’ve got big shoes to fill, @shanofficially is a powerhouse!!"

Featuring music and lyrics from Lin-Manuel Miranda and a blend of hip-hop, R&B, jazz, and Broadway influences, Hamilton tells the story of the rise to power and subsequent decline of its titular character, a hero of the American Revolutionary War and the United States' first secretary of the treasury.

The musical, which has featured diverse casts across its different productions, is currently also having a residency at Marina Bay Sands' Sands Theatre in Singapore.

Ong, who is based in the UK, has previously made history by becoming the first Singaporean actress to portray Éponine in the West End production of Les Misérables.

She returned to Singapore last December for a special homecoming charity concert at the Esplanade Concert Hall.
