The ASEAN Music Showcase Festival will return to Singapore this year with a new name and a fresh lineup of artists from around the region.
Titled "AXEAN Festival 2023", the fourth installment of the intraregional music showcase festival will be held at the Goodman Arts Centre on 28 and 29 October. This year's event will also be the second in-person edition of the festival, coming slightly over a year after ASEAN Music Showcase Festival 2022, which was held at Haw Par Villa.
A collaborative effort by seven ASEAN countries, including newcomer Laos, AXEAN Festival 2023 will spotlight musicians from Southeast Asia and serve as a platform for them to connect with music industry professionals.
Revealed on 1 August, the first wave of performers at the event includes a Singapore contingent comprising headliner Shye, singer-songwriters inch, and Jean Seizure, hip-hop act ABANGSAPAU, and rising shoegaze and dream pop outfit motifs.

They will be joined by regional acts such as the Philippines' The Itchyworms and ena mori, Thailand's KIKI, Indonesia's Reality Club, and Cambodia's Nick..
Piyapong ‘Py’ Muenprasertdee, a co-founder of AXEAN Festival, said: "Despite our different languages and customs, Southeast Asia is a region rich with historical heritage and shared cultures and identities. Colloquially, the term 'ASEAN' (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) is often used interchangeably with 'Southeast Asia' due to reasons including the spoken language of its people, signifying the sense of unity we have as a region.
He continued: "After three successful editions, we want to make a statement of our commitment to elevate Southeast Asian music onto the world stage by renaming our event 'AXEAN Festival', with an 'X' symbolising our core values of collaboration and crossing borders, whether physical, lingual or cultural, while also inviting artists and fans from all corners of the world to celebrate and share their music with us!"
Passes to AXEAN Festival 2023 are now available via Peatix. While admission is free, festival-goers are encouraged to make donations in support of the artists and festival.
