Singaporean rapper ShiGGa Shay teamed up Aisyah Aziz and Charlie Lim to release ‘uTopia reimagined: chasing’, marking the third installment of The Foundation’s UTOPIA Reimagined series.

The track is a direct response to the UTOPIA Symphony, a Singapore-inspired symphony by Russian composer Vladmir Martynov, and recorded by the London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO). Produced by superjdoug, ‘uTopia reimagined: chasing’ features the sampling of the orchestration played by the LPO. “It was a challenge to incorporate a unique piece like the UTOPIA Symphony as we had to blend and bend different genres together,” expressed ShiGGa in a press release statement.
Aisyah Aziz released her take of the symphony on the 29th of October with ‘Utopia Reimagined: Euphoria’. She imprints herself on the series again, lending her vocals on ShiGGa’s track. Charlie Lim was accredited with vocal production: “I feel like Charlie brought out a different side of me, as well as a different sound from me - his work on the vocal production has added something different to my usual style of music,” shared ShiGGa.

‘uTopia reimagined: chasing’ also stamps the first time ShiGGa, Aisyah, and Lim have all worked together on a track. ShiGGa describes the experience: “It was a fulfilling process to see how everything fell into place, and I hope that through this track, people will be able to appreciate a different side of Singapore.”
UTOPIA reimagined series is an initiative by The Foundation, commissioning artists to inject their own flavour, reimagining Martynov’s UTOPIA Symphony. “We are currently on the third release of the UTOPIA Reimagined initiative, and are delighted to see the creativity that all our commissioned artists have been putting into their singles,” shared Michael Tay, founder and executive director of The Foundation.
