Regina Song is having an incredible year. Hot off her debut album fangirl, which was released in June, the 20-year-old Singaporean artist recently became a TikTok sensation when her single 'the cutest pair' went insanely viral.
Now she teams with young Singaporean singer-songwriter hongjoin for a playful collaborative single that feels like it came out of a teenage romantic comedy.
Entitled 'i don't rly care bout u!', the joint-track came about when the pair came together "to write about the one thing they loved the most - young love".
However, the song isn't about romance per se, but rather about two people who are spiteful on the outside, but deep down, are actually fond of each other. By cheekily playing with perspectives the duo's song demonstrates the incompatibility of the two parties.
In the song, Regina recounts her silliness in love with the lyrics “This comical love equation/ Equals to my desolation”, while hongjoin provides a flipped perspective with “Now you say ‘1 plus 1’ just don’t add up/ Girl, what the hell you talking about?”
The song is also accompanied by an official music video, filmed and edited by Anthony Li from NYTE Works, which you can watch below.
