Gao Mei Gui has emerged as one of the Most Popular Rising Stars at this year’s Star Awards.
On 9 April, a total of 39 artists with five years or less of entertainment experience competed for three coveted awards in the category, with the YES 933 DJ eventually coming out on top alongside Ayden Sng and Richie Koh.
In what was a phenomenal night for radio, Mei Gui's The DAKA Show co-hosts Chen Ning and Jeff Goh also received awards in the Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes and the Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes categories respectively.

In a backstage interview, Mei Gui shared: "Even Lee Teng (the show's host) said it felt like a horse race, and that mine was also such an unexpected win! Who would've thought that I'd get it? Truthfully, all 30 of us have worked incredibly hard so all of our odds are really high."
"I’m very thankful that a lot of DAKA and radio listeners are supporting us. It’s a really happy day for all of us," she added.
Aside from being known for her contributions to local radio, Mei Gui has also participated in Campus Superstar Season 1, in which she emerged as one of the Top 10 female finalists, and won Singapore's singing reality TV show SPOP WAVE!.
