The 2-minute track takes an upbeat pop approach layered with a Latin-style groove. Speaking on the ethos of the collaborative effort’, Purrnaz said in a press release statement: “We were discussing a few common topics but we wanted something simple and innocent, hence a song that revolves around the comfort and security of a friendship.”

“Even when you’re at your lowest, we each have our own person or people to come aid us, our soulmates. And when I think of the word soulmates, I think of my bestest friends.”

Chew, who produced the track, goes on to explain the process of making it: “We made the beat different for the chorus as we wanted it to contrast the Latin groove that the electric piano and guitar is playing, so the chorus stands out and has a stronger impact.”

“For the ending, we wanted the vocals and the lyrics to be the main focus so we decided to strip away all the instruments and the reverb on the vocals, so that it feels more raw and sincere.”

‘One Mississippi’ was birthed out of a weekend session at Zendyll Studios, where the duo was given complete control of the space. Watch the second episode of the ongoing series above, and follow the duad as they piece the track together.
